£1.3 MILLION MAKEOVER FOR HISTORIC NOTTINGHAM STATION BRIDGE

Passengers at Nottingham station will be enjoying the benefits of a 'spruced up' station after a £1.3 million project to refurbish the historic footbridge. Network Rail is restoring the Grade II listed structure to its former glory to improve its appearance as an integral part of the railway station and gateway to the city. The refurbishment will see painstaking restoration work in keeping with the bridge’s heritage, whilst at the same time having the difficult job of keeping the bridge open to passengers. Network Area General Manager, Tom Birch said: "This bridge is need of some care and attention and we will be spending the time it needs to bring the bridge back to its former glory, enhancing the appearance of the station for passengers and visitors to Nottingham." Mike Haigh, Business Development Director for Central Trains, which operates the station, welcomed the investment.
He said: "Passengers are sure to welcome this improvement at Nottingham Station, which is the busiest station in the Central Trains’ network.
"We are shortly about to embark on a separate 16 week programme to redecorate the station, which includes repainting and redecoration of customer areas at platform level. We will also be upgrading the station CCTV system in the summer to make the station a safer place for passengers."

Network Rail is currently erecting scaffolding on the structure to allow work to restore the bridge to begin in May. The project will last for 6 months The bridge will remain open during the work with a customer management system operated by Central Trains The Railway Heritage Trust have awarded the restoration a grant of £50,000
