£1 MILLION CROSSING RENEWAL IN ULCEBY

Region & Route:
Train passengers and local people will benefit from a more reliable railway once Network Rail completes a £1 million upgrade of a level crossing in Ulceby. Work has already started on the crossing on Skitter Lane which will see the old manually controlled gates replaced with more modern barriers. Traffic management lights will also be installed. In order to carry out the works road traffic will have to be diverted from 28 April to 8 May. Pedestrians will still be able to use the route but drivers are asked to follow the diversion signs. Rail services between Cleethorpes and Barton on Humber will be replaced with a bus service on 29 April and from 2pm on 5 May to 2am on 7 May. Dyan Crowther, Network Rail's route director, said: "The equipment on this crossing has reached the end of its useful life and we are taking this opportunity to replace it with a more modern system. "We have worked closely with the council to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum, however it is inevitable that some delays will be caused. We apologise to anyone who is inconvenienced by these works which are vital to ensure the future safety and reliability of this crossing."

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
