The government has confirmed this morning that an additional £10m in funding will be provided for Network Rail’s proposed resilience scheme to ensure long-term protection for the railway and the community between Exeter and Newton Abbot.

With Birmingham’s famous Christmas market starting today (17 November) and the number of visitors to the city set to increase over the festive season, Network Rail is urging passengers to plan their journeys and allow more time to catch their trains at Birmingham New Street.

Network Rail will include designs for a ramped footbridge within its proposal to close Cornton level crossing when it submits a planning application to Stirling Council next month. 

A new bridge in Greater Manchester has reopened after a £4m scheme by Network Rail to upgrade the old bridge, which runs above the railway.

Following a series of detailed investigations and technical studies, Network Rail will present proposed upgrades to the railway line between Exeter and Newton Abbot to the public on Thursday (17 November), in an effort to ensure long-term protection for the railway and the community.

Engineers will soon begin work to install a new footbridge over the railway between Gallowhill Road and Arkleston Drive in Paisley.

Network Rail is advising passengers to the south and west of London to plan their journeys as early as possible this Christmas. This is ahead of a programme of upgrade work taking place on the country’s rail network over the Christmas period.
