Four footpath level crossings in Kent and three in Sussex are now safer thanks to a new audible warning device which alerts pedestrians of approaching trains.

Network Rail will replace a subway beneath a busy level crossing in North Yorkshire during the late-May bank holiday.

Work to upgrade the footbridge at Llanfairpwll station on the North Wales coastline has been completed as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan, to deliver a bigger and better railway for passengers.

Instances of train delays caused by trees falling onto the tracks could dramatically reduce as Network Rail, the company responsible for running and maintaining the railway, rolls-out a national “tree census” database with the ability to identify and target specific trees that could eventually cause problems for train passengers.

New gates have been installed at a pedestrian level crossing at Halesworth station, Suffolk to make the crossing safer as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan.

Network Rail has completed work to extend platforms at Egham and Virginia Water stations, as part of the £800 million Waterloo & South West Upgrade to increase capacity into Waterloo by 30% by the end of 2018.

Work to replace the railway bridge above Glasgow Road in Carmuirs was successfully completed over the Easter weekend.

Passengers at Hackney Wick station will be able to get to their trains more quickly and more easily when the new station is completed next year, following the installation of a pedestrian subway during the Easter weekend.
