Network Rail’s work to reopen the railway at Stonehaven will begin this week as it works to carefully recover the carriages involved in the tragic accident.

A lorry has hit a railway bridge in Coldhams Lane, Cambridge, today (Monday 7 September) causing disruption to rail services between Ipswich, Cambridge and Ely. The road is also currently closed.

Tens of millions of pounds is being invested into Manchester’s railway signalling system to improve journeys for passengers and freight.

Passengers are being advised about changes to rail journeys on September 5 during an essential upgrade to a railway bridge in St Helens.

Network Rail will shortly begin the next phase of development work between Alloa and Longannet which could see the reinstatement of passenger services between Clackmannanshire and Fife.

Passengers in south Wales could benefit from more services in the future as Network Rail is upgrading the River Ebbw railway bridge in Crumlin with the £5m upgrade starting this weekend.

Over £500k has been invested at Aldrington station to improve the platforms; resulting in safer and easier access for passengers to and from trains.

Dates for key works on the £1.2 billion East Coast Upgrade have now been confirmed, with a programme aimed at delivering improvements for passengers as soon as possible, Network Rail said today (3 September 2020).
