Network Rail to hold public information events in Crossgates, Garforth and Selby

Network Rail will hold information events in Crossgates, Garforth and Selby next week to inform people living near the railway of vegetation removal work.

As part of the TransPennine Route Upgrade, Network Rail will remove vegetation from the side of the railway to allow the installation of overhead lines which carry the power for electric trains.

The work forms part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan, to deliver a bigger, better railway for passengers and will mean quieter and cleaner trains for those living near the railway.

• Crossgates information event will be held on Monday, 5 December at Crossgates and District Recreation Centre, Station Road. The event will run between 16:00 and 19:00 and representatives from Network Rail and contractor QTS will be on hand to answer any questions. There will also be a presentation at 18:00.
• Garforth information event will be held on Tuesday, 6 December at Garforth Working Mens Club, Barley Hill Road, Garforth. The event will run between 16:00 and 19:00 and representatives from Network Rail and contractor QTS will be on hand to answer any questions. There will also be a presentation at 18:00.
• Selby and Thorpe Willoughby information event will be held on Wednesday, 7 December at Selby Community Centre, Scott Road, Selby. The event will run between 16:00 and 19:00 and representatives from Network Rail and contractor QTS will be on hand to answer any questions. There will also be a presentation at 18:00.

Trees which are on Network Rail land and could fall onto the railway in periods of adverse weather will also be removed and fencing along the route will be renewed.

Before vegetation work begins, Network Rail will carry out an ecological survey to identify any protected species and make sure appropriate methods of working are put in place. Work will be carried out during daytime hours on Monday to Friday, but there may be occasions when it is necessary to work during the night. Residents living near the railway will be notified if work is to take place overnight.
