Network Rail staff at London Liverpool Street station have been celebrating their success after winning the “Major Station of the Year” award at the prestigious National Rail Awards.

This annual event recognises excellence in the rail industry and is regarded as the “Oscars” for those working in the sector. London Liverpool Street station was judged by an independent panel as an outstanding example of a station which is customer-friendly, has excellent retail facilities and helpful staff.

Network Rail’s station manager, Adrian Gogay, said: “The entire team is delighted that our station has been recognised for delivering outstanding service to passengers who travel through Liverpool Street station.

“We manage one of the busiest stations in the country and want to ensure that all our passengers find it clean, bright and welcoming and have clear journey information with friendly staff on hand to help. That takes a lot of time, energy, effort and commitment, so it is very rewarding when that is recognised.”

A project is now underway at Liverpool Street station to build a new and improved ticket office and waiting room, improved toilet facilities and new retail units, which are set to open next year.

The current ticket office is set to be relocated to platform 10 and this space will then be converted into a new café and retail area on the main concourse and at street level, providing a better mix of retail and food and beverage offers for passengers.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
