Bletchley station ‘blooming great’ after railway volunteer day

Region & Route:
North West & Central
| North West & Central: West Coast Mainline South

Railway workers and community volunteers have joined forces to make Bletchley station more pleasant for passengers.

A 12-strong team from Network Rail and the Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership trimmed back overgrown vegetation, restocked planters with a variety of bulbs and removed three truckloads of rubbish on Friday 3 September.

Ridgmont and Lidlington stations will get the same treatment in the coming weeks.

Stephen Sleight, Marston Vale Community Rail partnership officer, said: “We really appreciate the help from Network Rail to breathe life into Bletchley station. We’re proud of the stations along the Marston Vale line and days like this help to make sure the communities we serve are proud of their local stations as well.”

James Dean, Network Rail’s West Coast South route director, said: “Network Rail encourages staff to help out in their local communities and we’re committed to making a difference to passengers’ everyday experience of the railway. We want the stations to be a clean, welcoming environment for people who travel through and as passengers return to railway it’s more important than ever to make sure this is case.”

Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership is one of a growing number of Community Rail Partnerships across the country.

They work to engage communities and help people get the most from their railways, promoting social inclusion and sustainable travel.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
