A welder puts the finishing touches in place on the new 10,000-tonne bridge deck which will span Caversham Road and provide extra space for the additional tracks which will serve the four new platforms at Reading.

The 1,000-tonne bridge deck which will be painstakingly lifted into place over Christmas/New Year 2010/11 has been constructed in its entirety on the former Royal Mail depot site which is currently home to Network Rail's Reading project team.
